"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus. He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
And that's what Clair Rueb did as he led the Pride to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Superstars.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," the Los Angeles manager said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
Rueb yielded 4 hits and had 9 strikeouts and no walks in a standout performance.
So far this season Rueb has a record of 17-8 with 158 strikeouts and 54 walks in 224 innings and a 3.42 ERA. |

Los Angeles fans will be disappointed to learn that Marco Zeno developed a inguinal hernia while running the bases in today's game. After the doctor informed the Los Angeles Superstars manager that Zeno was expected to miss 4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the catcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
So far this year Zeno is hitting .311 with 17 home runs.

 | Thursday, August 3rd, 2028: Panama City's Phiri Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits
It wasn't just another day at the ballpark for Gadla Phiri. It was a very special day, one that many players never experience. But he did. Phiri went on a tear and cracked hit after hit off Los Angeles pitching.
When the dust settled on the diamond at Rod Carew Stadium, he had a career 5-6 day and something he will long remember. And the Panama City Warriors had a 10-2 victory over the Superstars.
"Yeah, it'll be something nice to tell the grandkids, but it won't get me a hit tomorrow," he joked in the postgame interview.
G. Phiri singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off B. Maupin in the 9th.
So far this year Phiri is batting .327 with 21 home runs, 83 RBIs and 65 runs scored.
